AEM Package Filter Builder — User Guide

Generates a FileVault filter.xml for an AEM Content Package. Everything runs in your browser.

Quick start

  1. Add a filter root — the repository path the package covers (e.g. /content/mysite).
  2. Pick an import mode:
    • replace (default) — the target content under the root is fully replaced by the package.
    • merge — new content is added, existing content is left alone.
    • merge-preserve — like merge, but never overwrites content that already exists at the same path.
  3. Add include/exclude patterns (regular expressions) to scope the filter further. The placeholder shows the common "this root and everything under it" pattern — /content/mysite(/.*)?.
  4. Copy the generated filter.xml into META-INF/vault/filter.xml in your package.

Validation

The tool flags a few common mistakes live: a root that doesn't start with /, a pattern that doesn't start with its root's path (usually a typo), and duplicate roots.

Notes

  • If a root has no include/exclude patterns, the filter covers the entire subtree by default — that's valid FileVault syntax, no pattern required.
  • mode is only written to the XML when it isn't replace (the FileVault default), keeping the output minimal.
